Greetings visitors!
I know the “about” tab is supposed to display a ton of great key accomplishments and highlight me as some overachieving expert in career development and/or on-the-job advice. While I do have a book published, have worked at two of the world’s greatest companies, serve as a junior board member of a charity and have been featured in a number of publications I feel that self promotion is bogus and believe that if you are truly great at something then others will promote you. So rather than spout off a list of accomplishments achieved up till now and posting a ton of pictures as proof I’m opting to actually tell you “about” me since this is technically the “about” tab.
I’m just a normal guy who has built a great career from scratch, in record time, with barely a degree and zero direction. I come from humble beginnings, a small farming community in Illinois (Bunker Hill, look it up… if you can find it). I milked cattle, rustled up calves, rode four-wheelers, drove tractors, raked hay, played football and dreamed of a point in the future where I wouldn’t have to work twelve hour days in the freezing cold only to come home smelling like cow shit.
Today I live in St Louis. I command a sizeable income, especially for someone my age in this city (currently in my late 20’s). I play my guitars, workout as often as possible, build businesses, support my charity, kick ass in my career and drink beer with as many friends as I have to. Even though I live in the city and Project Manage for a Fortune 50 I still have some country boy in me. I drive a huge Dodge pickup, can fix nearly anything with only bailing wire and duct tape, wear a white t-shirt and jeans every minute I’m not in the office, listen to country music, spent two years cage fighting and use a few words only Jeff Foxworthy could recognize (yes these words will come out in a keynote speech occasionally).
Overall I have a few basic things I want to do daily in my life.
• Have fun
• Add value
• Make money
Above all I tell everyone I know to “own your situation”. It’s a phrase I’ve become known for in my circle. I believe in not making excuses and rising above the odds no matter the circumstance. Owning your situation starts with a “can’t hold me back” attitude and finishes with execution of the accomplishment.
